In recent months, the IPM Popillia Consortium has collaborated with SPOTTERON to create informational and dissemination materials about the invasive Japanese beetle (Popillia japonica), which has been spreading across Europe for several years. Recently, the materials were published and sent to contacts in the agricultural sector and plant health services. EPPO OEPP (European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organization) uploaded the materials on their platform.
The aim of this material is to reach the public, particularly those working or living near agriculture, gardens, and areas involved in food production and transport. It is crucial for these individuals to be informed about the beetle, which poses a potential threat to food security and can cause significant harvest losses.
Dissemination package in several languages
The dissemination package is available in English, German, Italian, French, and Portuguese and include several materials:
- Infomaterials (InfoSheet (A4), LifeCycle, Poster (A3), Social Media Post (16:9))
- Logos
- Press text
- App Marker Icon
- App Mockups
- QR codes leading to the app stores
All materials are licensed under CC BY-ND 4.0, allowing everyone to share the content freely.
Information Sheet (A4)
We have designed an InfoSheet that contains all the essential information about the beetle, including its host plants, the spread of the species, and details on when and where to find and recognize the Japanese beetle.
A3 Poster
Social Media Post (16:9)

IPM Citizen Science App
As part of the project, we developed a Citizen Science App that allows everyone to upload sightings of the beetle. This initiative helps us understand its spread and should make it easier for the public to report invasive species. Each uploaded sighting of Popillia japonica is reported to national authorities and experts involved in the IPM-Popillia Project.
Thank you for sharing!
